What My Insurance Company Says, I Think It's The Other Guy’s Fault
And My Insurance Company Shouldn’t Pay Unless I Say So!
An insurance
policy is a contract between you and your insurance company. As
is the case with many contracts, it contains conditions which provide
certain rights to either or both parties. One of those conditions
clearly states that, upon acceptance of the policy, you give the
insurance company the right to settle a claim. Liability issues
can often be confusing.
For example,
there are some people who believe that one cannot be held responsible
for damage to another if one does not receive a traffic ticket.
This is far from true. Accidents causing damage invoke civil law
and may or may not involve criminal law. More often than not, civil
law is the determining factor in whose insurance company pays for
whom.
