Workers Compensation Insurance FAQs

Q.  Is Workers Compensation mandatory?
A.  In North Dakota, all firms are subject to the Workers Compensation statute and all are required to carry Workers Comp insurance in the State Fund.
Q.  Are there any exceptions?
A.  The only exception is that certain non-hazardous occupations are exempted.  There are also special rules that apply to coverage for employers themselves.
Q.  What are these special rules?
A.  In most cases, coverage is elective for employers and resident family members.  Contact the State Fund for additional details about North Dakota workers compensation.
Q.  What if a corporate officer does not take a salary?
A.  The payroll used to calculate premiums for corporate officers may be subject to minimums and maximums.  Contact the State Fund for this information.
Q.  What does an injured worker receive?
A.  All medical bills are paid and if the worker cannot work for an extended period of time, disability benefits are paid up to a maximum of $417.00 per week.
