Q. Is Workers Compensation mandatory? |
| A. In
Puerto Rico, all firms are subject to the Workers Compensation statute
and all are required to carry Workers Comp insurance in the Territorial
Fund. |

Q. Are there any exceptions? |
| A. There
are no exceptions with regard to employees. There
are, however, special rules that apply to sole proprietors. |

Q. What are these special rules? |
| A. Coverage
is elective for sole proprietors and their families under most conditions.
Coverage is mandatory for corporate officers. A
signed form is necessary for sole proprietors to elect coverage. |

Q. What if a corporate officer does
not take a salary? |
| A. The
payroll used to calculate premiums for corporate officers may be subject
to minimums and maximums. Contact
the Territorial Fund for this information. |

Q. What does an injured worker receive? |
| A. All medical bills are paid and if
the worker cannot work for an extended period of time, disability benefits
are paid up to a maximum of Unknown
per week. |
